 CAROTID ARTERY EXAM

Your physician has ordered a study of the large arteries of your neck (carotid arteries). The carotid arteries supply blood to your brain. This test will detect narrowing or blockage of the carotid arteries.

Common names for this study are ultrasound, duplex, or doppler.

The test will involve placement of a gel along the neck, and a probe will record the sound waves of your blood flow.

There will not be any needles or dye involved in this exam.

The test will take approximately one hour.
