VENOUS EXAM
(UPPER AND LOWER EXTREMITIES)
Your physician has ordered a study of the large veins in your legs using ultrasound. Common names for this study are ultrasound or Doppler. The veins return blood to your heart and lungs. The test will detect narrowing or blockage of the veins. There will be no needles or dye involved in this exam. The test will take approximately one hour. If you are experiencing pain and tenderness, there may be some discomfort with this test due to light pressure on the legs or arms. Gel will be placed along the legs or arms depending on which exam is ordered. A probe will record the sound waves of your blood flow.
